Senior NCP Members Demand PM’s Resignation

Few days after PM Oli’s statement that India and a few people within Nepal were planning to oust him, He has been asked to step down not just from the PM but also from the Chairman of the NCP.

NCP’s other chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, senior leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhalanath Khanal, Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Bam Dev Gautam demanded that Oli step down from both the positions he holds.

This was demanded at the Standing Committee meeting on Tuesday. At least 18 Standing Committee members sought his resignation during the meeting.

Those asking for his resignation said that he had lost the moral ground to remain as the PM or the party’s chair after his comments earlier about India and others within the party trying to oust him.

PM Oli, in his defence, said that he had done a lot of significant work in the last two years and his opponents were focused on only finding his faults, rather than appreciating the ‘good works’.

PM Oli had met with the President before the Standing Committee meeting which was seen as meaningful. However, his press advisor Surya Thapa said that it was a regular meeting.
