No relief even in difficult times

The Kathmandu Metropolitan Tourist Rickshaw Independent Drivers' Association has complained that they have been hit hard due to the lockdown but the state has not provided relief and facilities even during this difficult time.

Speaking at a press conference at Reporters Club Nepal on Monday, the organization said that the tourism business has come to a standstill and there is no possibility of immediate reopening.

In such a situation, they demand that the state should make alternative arrangements for them. As most of the workers are squatters and do not even have the capacity to rent rooms without land, they are living in rickshaws.

Chairman of the organization Krishna Bahadur Bishwakarma complained that even though all the political parties in Nepal took the lead by raising the agenda of the workers, the workers today are still where they are.

The organization has also demanded that the state government should abolish tourist rickshaws and bring modified electric rickshaws in the 21st century.
