The testing of the highly anticipated Melamchi Water Supply project’s tunnel began on Sunday. The tunnel is to bring water from Melamchi of Sindhupalchok to Kathmandu Valley.
The deadline of the ambitious Melamchi Water Supply Project has been deferred repeatedly in the past few years. Now, the government says the project will be able to deliver water to Kathmandu by the next year.
Water Supply Minister Bina Magar announced the beginning of the test during a press meet in Kathmandu. The 27-km tunnel will deliver the water to the project’s processing centre in
Sundarijal on the northeastern outskirts of Kathmandu.
