The production of paddy was not very good last year in Banke. This is expected to improve this year.
Eighty-five percent paddy has been planted before the end of July due to the much needed rain on time.
Sagar Dhakal, head of the Agriculture Knowledge Center, said that the production would increase this year due to timely planting.
He added that due to Covid 19 lockdown, the available manpower was also staying back home and could contribute to the plantation.
Sikta Irrigation Project has helped the farmers as water that was sent as a test reached their fields.
Sikta Irrigation, which is linked to the future of Banke, experienced damage to its canals twice in previous years when water was released.
Paddy is cultivated in 36,500 hectares in Banke. The production of one and a half quintal of paddy per hectare is also considered low.
Paddy production is not generally going well due to untimely rains, lack of manpower, untimely arrival of fertilizers and seeds.
The bigger problem is with the landlord than with the plowman. Food production in the district is declining due to landlords planting trees, developing and selling them as plots.
