Agreement Reached to Resume Public Transportation From Thursday

The government, transport entrepreneurs  and trade unions have agreed to operate public transport from Thursday.

The government has agreed to the demands of businessmen including guaranteeing the safety of drivers and co-drivers and insuring them against corona.

President of the National Federation of Nepali Transport Entrepreneurs Yogendra Man Karmacharya said that the vehicles will be operated by adopting high security. "We had some demands, some demands have been addressed by the monetary policy.  We have agreed on some of the demands after discussing with the Department of Transport Management, ”he said.

Discussions were held on Monday between the Department of Transport Management, National Federation of Transport Entrepreneurs, Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, Nepal Independent Transport Workers Union, All Nepal Transport Workers Union and Nepal Transport Workers Union.

The Department of Transport Management has stated that the procedure will be strictly enforced.

The department has developed a procedure-plan on public transport in the Corona epidemic to stay safe during the Corona epidemic. According to the developed  plan, only one passenger should be there per seat in the vehicle, the driver and co-driver must wear gloves, mask, sanitizer in each vehicle, and  social distancing must be maintained when boarding and getting off.
