75 families displaced after overflow relocates grooves in Saptari

A large number of families have been displaced after flood waters flooded their houses in Saptari’s Hanumannagar Kankalini Metropolis.

According to Hanumannagar Kandalini Municipality-13 Ward Chair Bindeshwor Yadav, some 75 families of Gobargadha have been saved and momentarily sheltered at Rastriya Adharbhut Preliminary School after floodwaters from the Saptakoshi River flowed into their homes.

“As the water level keeps growing in the river, arrangements are on to shift more families at the risk of flood to a harmless place,” said the Ward Chair Yadav.

Administrator of Police Krishna Prasai said that the people in the settlements near the river have been told to remain on high alert in the view of the flood risk. Increasing water flow in the Saptakoshi River was measured at 276,555 cusec at 3:00pm this afternoon.

As a result, a red light has been displayed at the Koshi Barrage to specify the risk factor for the people living nearby the river.

Given the flood due to the rise in water level, 40 out of 56 sluice entries at the Koshi Barrage were unlocked, said District Police Office, Saptari.
