Instructions for providing technical capabilities

The Development and Technology Committee under the House of Representatives has directed to provide details of the technical capacity of the pipes connected to supply water from Melamchi to Sundarijal.

A meeting of the committee held at Singha Durbar on Wednesday directed the Ministry of Water Supply and Melamchi Drinking Water Development Committee to check the technical capacity of the newly connected pipes and provide details.

The meeting also directed the ministry to make arrangements for smooth operation of Melamchi by resolving the problems of the locals. Committee Chairperson Kalyani Khadka said that only efforts were being made to bring Melamchi water to Sundarijal and directed to solve other problems.

During the meeting, Minister for Water Supply Bina Magar reiterated that Melamchi water would reach Sundarijal in mid-July. Stating that the work of physical infrastructure required for the temporary diversion is 99 percent complete, he said that the testing and distribution process will move forward in a systematic manner in mid-July and in the new fiscal year.

In the meeting, the lawmakers said that the people were disappointed that Melamchi water could not be brought even though it had been discussed for a long time. They had questioned the reason for the delay in coming to Melamchi.

Similarly, the representatives of Melamchi Drinking Water Development Committee informed that 10 percent of the work of pipe connection between the tunnel and the water treatment center is left. The committee has discussed the progress of the Melamchi project with the concerned bodies.
