Hana Kimura dies at the age of 22
Professional Japanese wrestler who appeared in the latest series of Netflix's reality show Terrace House, Hana Kimura has died at the age of 22. Her mother was also a well-known wrestler, Kyoko Kimura. Stardom Wrestling, Kimura's organization, confirmed the news via Twitter.
The cause of death has not been made clear but quite soon before she died, she posted a series of upsetting social media posts revealing that she’s been bullied online and has been cyber-bullied by her fans and followers. Before dying she updated photo on her Instagram story with her cat, with a caption "goodbye".
Though concerns were raised on Twitter after Hana appeared posting images of self-harm on Twitter along with caption:
"I don't want to be a human anymore. It was a life I wanted to be loved. Thank you everyone, I love you. Bye."
Kimura was bullied and attacked from hundreds of mean tweets from so called fans, followers and critics frequently. Ironically, on news of her death, fans and industry figures spoke out against cyber-bullying and its impact on mental health.
Cyber bullying has been one of the rising crimes in this era where every other person be it a general person or a public figure like Hana are bullied so badly that they aren’t able to cope and take bad decision ending the life.
Wrestling journalist Adam Pacitti writes in condolence "I hope this serves as a reminder that interactions on social media can have a serious effect on the mental health of anyone, no matter who they are".
The alarming increasing rate of cyber bullying is a matter of concern in this electronic era.
