Guthi lands could not be controlled by the state

Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Padma kumari Aryal has said that the state has not been able to control the lands of Guthi.

Minister, Aryal said this while discussing the report submitted by the Pashupati Area Development Fund Study Sub-Committee formed under the National Affairs and Coordination Committee at the National Affairs and Coordination Committee on Sunday.

She said that even though the ancestors donated land to the Guthi with a benevolent spirit, now the ministry is working to protect the land, saying that people are taking it away, encroaching on it and making it their own.

She also informed that an inquiry commission has been formed to protect government, public and Guthi lands to protect religion and culture. Aryal said that even though the Guthi Bill was brought with an action plan to protect the Guthi land and establish the rights of the farmers attached to the Guthi land, it had to be brought back.

She said that as long as there is dual ownership, there will be big problems in Guthi. Minister, Aryal also said that the current dispute is related to ownership and resource mobilization.

In the meeting, committee chairperson Dil Kumari Rawal Thapa said that the committee has reached a conclusion to solve the problem and another meeting will be held after discussing with all the concerned bodies.

There are more than 2,000 guthis across the country. There are 500 guthis in the Kathmandu Valley alone. There are more than 35,000 cooperatives on the cooperative side.
