Ronaldinho will not be released
World Player of the Year awarded former Brazilian soccer player Ronaldinho has spent two months in custody in Paraguay.
Ronaldinho, a former player of Barcelona, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain, were taken into custody after they entered to Paraguay for the promotion of a book and a campaign for underprivileged and children on a fake Paraguayan passport.
As the judge has rejected the defense's request for conditional release on Tuesday, the player will be staying in pre-detention in Paraguay. Ronaldinho said the passports were given to him by people who invited him to attend conferences which were sponsored by charities working with disadvantaged children.
"Ronaldinho did not commit a crime because he did not know that the passport they gave him was faked," he said.
With the discovery of new proofs, and the revelation of involvement of public officials and business people Judge Gustavo Amarilla quoted earnestness of the situation. If proved, Ronaldinho might face up to five years in prison.
