US born oldest person living in Spain, Maria Branyas, a 113-year-old woman, has defeated the corona virus at the Santa Maria del Tura care home.
The care home has recorded "large number of" virus-related deaths during the pandemic, the spokeswoman for the residence said.
Spain's terrible outbreaks have affected all the retirement homes. Maria was born on March 4, 1907 in San Francisco. Her father was from northern Spain, who worked as a journalist.
Branyas got infected by covid-19 in April in the city of Olot, where she was the only survivor after living in isolation in her room for weeks. "She survived the disease and is doing fine".
"She feels good now, she took a test last week and the result was negative," the spokeswoman said without giving further details to the AFP.
Maria can be seen all over the Spanish media, many articles have been published in recent years as she is believed to be the oldest person in the country.
Catalan regional television TV3 had also broadcasted images and videos of Maria, where she expresses gratitude towards her staff saying[1] "very kind, very attentive" who was taking[2] care of the centenarian.
Maria moved to Spain during World War I with her family on a boat and also lived through the Spanish flu pandemic which took lives of the world in 1918-19 as well as Spain's 1936-39 civil war.
Spain is going through an extremely bad situation, one of the worstly affected countries in the world by the pandemic, with nearly 27,000 COVID-19 deaths confirmed according to health ministry’s statistic.
Maria’s recovery has given hope to many other infected patients of covid-19 in this adversity.
