Water ATM has come into operation in Kathmandu on the initiative of the government. Water ATMs have come into operation automatically by placing coins or notes as per the requirement for drinking water.
Minister for Water Supply Manichandra Thapa inaugurated Water ATM, which was brought into operation with the joint efforts of Ministry of Water Supply, Kathmandu Metropolitan City and Kathmandu Valley Drinking Water Management Board.
Minister Thapa said that clean and quality drinking water facility has been made available with the connection of water ATMs and general public will be benefitted. Minister Thapa informed that target is to have 15 ATMs and currently they are in operation in four places.
Consumers will have to pay Rs 1 for every 200 millimeters of water. Provision has been made to pay Rs. 5 per liter of water. Ministry has stated that water ATM, which was started from Shantibatika in Kathmandu, will be expanded to other places as well.
