The sugarcane farmers of Sarlahi, who are protesting in Kathmandu, have stated that they will continue their peaceful protest till their dues are paid.
In a letter sent by the government for talks on Thursday, the Sarlahi Sugarcane Farmers' Struggle Committee said that the peaceful agitation will continue until the Ministry of Industry pay their dues.
In the two-point reply, it has been stated that if there is a Prime Minister's Relief Fund or any other state fund, the arrears should be paid to the farmers from that fund and the entire amount should be paid by the government with interest from the industrialists.
They are adamant that they will not negotiate unless there is an environment conducive to their terms. Sugarcane farmers have been staging sit-ins in Kathmandu for a long time saying that they have not received their dues.
Sugarcane farmers of Sarlahi have started a Kathmandu-centric agitation on Sunday saying that the government's promise to collect the arrears from the sugar mill operator has not been fulfilled.
