The Gurkha Ex-Servicemen's Association (GESO) has welcomed the provision of social security allowance to the families of Gurkha ex-servicemen through an ordinance.
Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu on Monday, Gesso welcomed the ordinance saying that the previous discriminatory decision was amended through the Social Security Act.
Earlier, as per the provision made in clause (c) of Article 15 of the Social Security Act 2075, the person who was receiving any other facility regularly was not allowed to get social security allowance.
However, the government has recently amended the ordinance to provide social security benefits to ex-servicemen and their families within this year, said GESSO coordinator Krishna Kumar Rai.
Stating that they did not felt as citizens within Nepal due to the previous system, he said that they feel that they have got justice with the current decision.
Earlier, Gesso had discussed the issue with the concerned bodies, demanding immediate withdrawal of the government's decision and guaranteeing their right to social security.
