The Ministry of Urban Development is making preparations to dispose the garbage of the Kathmandu Valley at the under-construction new landfill site in Banchare Danda in Dhading.
The garbage of the capital will be dumped at the new landfill site from 2nd week of December , according to the ministry. After lifting up lockdown, the construction of the landfill has begun, said Krishna Prasad Dawadi, the information officer for the ministry.
Lumbini Koshi and Neupane JV had signed a contract with the government on May 5, 2019 to build the Sanitary landfill site within one year. “The construction of the landfill site has reached a final stage,” said Dawadi, adding, “The soil is being leveled now.”
Located at the border between Dhading and Nuwakot districts, the sanitary landfill site will have a 15-meter-high dam equipped with other facilities for dumping garbage, according to the ministry. Kathmandu Valley produces around 200 trucks of garbage on a daily basis.
