Parliamentary Hearing Committee of Federal Parliament has unanimously approved the name of Senior Advocate Ram Prasad Shrestha as a member of Judicial Council.
Shrestha's name was unanimously approved by committee meeting held on Friday. Nepal Bar Association had recommended name of Senior Advocate Shrestha as a member of Judicial Council.
With the approval of committee, way has been opened for Shrestha to become a member of council for four years. Committee Chairman Laxman Lal Karna informed that Shrestha's name was unanimously approved after the discussion in committee meeting.
Presenting a four-point action plan at meeting, Shrestha said that work and role of Judicial Council would be made transparent. Shrestha also said that he would play a role in making judiciary independent, fair, capable and accountable.
Former Judicial Council member Ram Prasad Sitaula, who was recommended by Bar, retired last September, leaving the post of member representing Bar vacant.
