Police have made public on Wednesday two persons arrested in connection with the murder of 65-year-old Shri Ram Sah, a priest of Hanuman Temple at Khesarhiya Tol in Madhavnarayan Municipality-2.
Those involved were arrested two weeks after the murder. Priest Sah, who was having dinner on the night of August 19, was shot dead in the head.
Ram Naresh Raut Patel, 36, and Bal Kumar Patel, 28, of Karuniya in Dewahi Gonahi Municipality-1 have been arrested for their involvement in the murder, said DSP Anshu Kumar Singh, spokesperson of the State Police Office, Janakpur. A special team deployed from State 2 Police and District Police Office, Rautahat arrested the two from Bankul Area in Baudhimai Municipality-7 on Wednesday morning.
According to the preliminary investigation after the arrest, Ram Naresh has confessed to the murder using a sharp pistol. At the time of the shooting, Bal Kumar was monitoring the movement of people near the scene. Ram Naresh's father has told the police that he had taken some money from the priest as interest and planned to kill him after a dispute.
There were three liquor shops near the temple and three days before the incident, there was a dispute between Ram Naresh and the priest. Police have also blamed it for the murder. ‘Priests used to have different opinions when discussing various issues in the village. During this time, there were many disputes with the priest. After that, we have planned the murder, ” DSP Singh quoted Ram Naresh.
Although others were involved in the incident, police have kept their names secret. Another person involved in the incident is absconding, police said. According to DSP Singh, the District Court, Gaur, has extended the time limit by 10 days. Ward Chairman of Debahi Gonahi-1 Sheikh Nurullah has been kept under suspicion in the incident. His involvement remains to be confirmed. Nurullah is absconding after the incident. He is now hiding in India, according to high-ranking police sources.
He was an informant of the police about a decade ago.
