The flight to Libya has been postponed on Monday after the United Nations called for the deployment of coronavirus infection on some Nepal Army personnel who were going to be deployed in Libya to establish peace.
According to Nepal Army Spokesperson Santosh Ballabh Poudel, the scheduled flight scheduled has been postponed after more than 35 out of 116 peacekeepers on their way to Libya tested positive for Covid-19.
The team, which is part of the United Mission Guard Unit, also includes 17 women soldiers.
After completing the training at the Birendra Peacekeeping Training Center in Panchkhal, Kavrepalanchok, the contingent has been in quarantine for the past four months.
The UN peacekeeping plane was scheduled to arrive last night to pick up the Nepali peacekeepers and the team was scheduled to leave this morning.
It is said that the flight had to be postponed after the corona was suddenly confirmed only on Sunday. Nepali peacekeepers have been stationed in Libya since 2016, where 229 Nepali troops are currently stationed.
According to the Military Public Relations and Information Directorate, the flight to Libya will be scheduled only after tracking the infected person and re-examining all members of the team.
The peacekeeping team, which was due to leave for Libya in Baishakh, was suspended for four months due to the worldwide Covid-19. As no pre-test symptoms were found in those soldiers, it has become a subject of great research in itself.
Earlier, no infection was confirmed in the Nepal Peace Keeping Force, which has been deployed to the conflict-torn countries of Mali, Central African Republic, and South Sudan.
Meanwhile, the number of people infected with COVID-19 in the overall ranks of the Nepal Army has skyrocketed recently.
Spokesperson Poudel informed that the number has increased to 1,383 by the 28th of this month which was only 508 people by Bhadra 17.
Of the infected soldiers from Covid-19, 294 have recovered and returned home so far, while 1,089 are active patients of Corona.
