Nepali domestic workers living in other countries illegally should be repatriated: Industry Committee

Lawmakers said that Nepali domestic workers living in other countries illegally should be repatriated. At a meeting of the Committee on Industry and Commerce and Labor and Consumer Affairs in Singha Durbar on Monday, Lawmakers said that Nepalese living in other countries have suffered illegally and should be repatriated.

Lawmakers said that even though Nepali government has banned the sending of domestic workers, manpower companies have been sending them through various processes and Nepali embassies in other countries should pay attention to this. During the meeting, MP Bhimsen Das Pradhan said that the demand for sending women as domestic workers did not come from anywhere. MP Pradhan said that government should stop sending women domestic workers now. Similarly, MP Som Prasad Pandey said that action should be taken against manpower company sending illegal domestic workers.

Similarly, MP Sujata Pariyar said that Nepalese were stranded due to the closure of companies in some Gulf countries and government should repatriate them on priority basis. Similarly, Nepali ambassadors from different countries who participated in the meeting through virtual media said that there are still a large number of Nepalese who need to be rescued. Nepal's ambassador to Qatar, Narad Bharadwaj, said the rescue of the workers was not possible with a chartered flight alone.

Ambassador Bharadwaj said that more than 16,000 Nepalese are waiting in Qatar to return home.
