Acid smuggler jailed for 20 years, fined Rs 1 million

Government has passed an ordinance from Council of Ministers to control acid related offenses. An ordinance has been passed by Council of Ministers to impose a sentence of 20 years imprisonment for injuring or damaging the body by spreading acid.

According to Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, a separate ordinance on acid crimes has been passed by the Council of Ministers.

An ordinance has been passed by Council of Ministers to impose life time sentence of jail if acid victims died, 20 years imprisonment for injuring or damaging the body by spreading acid.

Minister Shiva Maya Tungbahamphe informed that ordinance will be issued in the Gazette today by President Bidhyadevi Bhandari.

According to the Criminal Code Act (2074 BS), if a person dies from acid attack, s/he is liable to imprisonment for birth and injury, and if mutilated, s/he is liable to imprisonment for a maximum of eight years.
