Four members of a family died when the Duduli River in Naraharinath Village Municipality-7 of Kalikot overflowed.
Deva Bohara, 33, of Panchadewal Binayak Municipality-9, Tamkot, her children Bipana, 14, Hemant, 7, and Aakriti, 1, died while crossing the river on Saturday evening, said Karnali State Police Office spokesperson Rajesh Nath Banstola. She had come to Narkharinath Gaonpalika-7 Malkot to meet her parents in Kalikot.
Spokesperson Banstola said that she was swept by the river on the way back.
So far, 36 people have been killed and 18 injured in floods and landslides in Kalikot. According to the District Police Office, Kalikot, 16 people have died in Narharinath, eight in Mahabai, seven in Raskot, two in Sannitriveni, one each in Palata, Pachaljharna and Khandachakra.
Similarly, 300 families have been displaced in Tajkot village of Humla district when landslides destroyed their house. Due to continuous rains, residents of ward 2,3, and 4 of Tajankot village municipality have been displaced.
Manju Budha, vice-chairperson of the village, said that some houses were washed away by the floods and landslides and some were at high risk. "Three hundred families have been displaced due to the collapse of houses and others are at high risk," said Budha.
According to her, houses, hotels and shops in Chhaprela Bazaar are at high risk. Similarly, the village municipality office was also flooded, she said. The offices of the chairman, vice-chairman and technician have been destroyed by the floods.
Similarly, houses in Utiseni, Chhaprela Bazaar, Bhadaldipu, Gallawada, Kharra, Deulagaira, Chautariwada, Vialwada, Kaulamgadal and other villages were destroyed by the floods, said Budha.
Similarly, people have been living in a tent after a landslide hit a dalit settlement in Utiseni, Khari and Deula Gaira of Tajankot Municipality-4.
