Siddhartha Highway blocked for the past four days due to landslides after continuous rain

Landslides at Gaudepul area of Tansen Municipality-8 has blocked the Siddhartha Highway between Butwal and Tansen  for the last four days. Vehicular movement has been brought to a standstill following the blockade.

A truck with a number plate Lu 1 Ka 1175 — which was stuck due to landslides a few days ago — was also buried under the debris following another landslide, according to Madan Giri, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the Palpa District Police Office, Palpa.

Huge amount of boulders have continued to fall from the hill adjacent to the road since Thursday causing the road blockage, according to him.

DSP Giri of Palpa said that efforts were underway to resume the vehicular movement on the highway by clearing the debris. He also added that incessant rainfall had prevented local authorities from clearing the debris.

Hundreds of passengers have been stranded along the highway.
