Landslides Claimed 97 Lives Last Month

The National Disaster Reduction and Management Authority has announced that as many as 97 people have been killed and 43 are missing in landslides across the country in the past one month. It also added that 83 more had been injured.

On the other hand, lightning strikes have killed 17 people in the same time period. Likewise, more than 7,000 people have been displaced due to landslides and floods triggered by incessant rains across the country in the last one week.

Those displaced are from Rautahat, Sapatari, Sankhuwasabha, Lamjung, Jajarkot, Sindhupalchowk, Maygdi and Jhapa districts. As many as 2,500 people from 500 houses have been shifted to safer areas in Rautahat district after the floods inundated the district.
