The 207th birth anniversary of Nepali language poet Bhanubhakta Acharya has been celebrated with various programs on Monday.
On the occasion of his birth anniversary, a wreath was laid at the statue of Acharya at Pragya Pratishthan in Kathmandu. Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai laid a wreath at the program organized by the foundation.
The birth anniversary of Bhanubhakta, who was born in the village of Chundiramgha in Tanahu on July 12, 1871, is celebrated in Darjeeling, Sikkim and many other Nepali-speaking places in India.
Meanwhile, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai has said that Bhanubhakta is an activist for the unification of the nation through Nepali language and literature.
Addressing a program organized by Pragya Pratishthan on the occasion of Bhanu Jayanti, Bhattarai said, "Language and literature represent not only one community, caste and religion but also the entire human civilization."
Speaking on the occasion, Ganga Prasad Upreti, Vice-Chancellor of the Foundation, said that various places associated with Adikavi Acharya should be connected and literature should be promoted through tourism. Bhanubhakta died in September 1925.
